All generic Top-Level Domain extensions and certain country-code ones support a security lock option whose function is to hinder unsanctioned transfers of active domain names. Many registry operators that manage country-code TLDs that don’t support this option are in the process of adopting it for greater security and for the convenience of the domain owners. A domain name can be transferred only on the condition that it is unlocked and only a registrant who has been given access to the account with the current registrar company can achieve that. New domain names are registered with the lock option activated on purpose, so as to impede any unwanted transfer attempts. The lock feature is among the security measures for regulating the transfer of active domains between domain registrars that have been introduced over the years.
Registrar Lock in Hosting
Locking and unlocking a domain name registered through us is unbelievably easy. This can be achieved through the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with our Linux hosting packages, and will take literally two clicks. All your domains will be listed in alphabetical order in the Domain Manager section of the Hepsia Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you will notice a padlock-like symbol. Click on it once and you will notice the domain name’s current status. Click once again and you will change its status. The update will take effect momentarily without the need for you or for us to do anything else for the status to be ‘refreshed’ on WHOIS lookup websites, so you can go ahead with the transfer straight away.
Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Administering your domain names with our company is very easy and the registrar lock option makes no exception. If you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account, you will be able to administer the domain names registered through us using the very same Control Panel via which you’ll manage your web hosting account. For your convenience, the domain names will be shown in alphabetical order and on the right-hand side you will notice a padlock-like icon in case the given domain name supports the registrar lock option. If you click the icon, you’ll find out if the particular domain is locked or not and you will be able to alter this status by clicking again. The status will change instantaneously and you will be able to initiate the domain transfer without needing to wait for the change to be displayed on WHOIS lookup sites or for us to do anything on our end.
